Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) visited a Cleveland home on 8/14/09 to announce the launch of a new clean energy job training program. At a Cleveland home currently undergoing weatherization renovations that will improve its energy efficiency, Brown joined the National Community Action Foundation (NCAF) and ExxonMobil to announce funds that will be awarded to the Ohio Green Workforce Training Partnership through an inaugural grant from the NCAF ExxonMobil Weatherization Training Partnership.
Sen. Brown spoke about restoring the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Erie, and how that would help the economy.
Sen. Brown took a tour of the W.O. Walker Center and helped register patients at the MedWorks event in Cleveland on July 25, 2009.
On July 17th, Sen. Brown held a hearing of the subcommittee on Economic Policy as part of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The hearing was entitled "The U.S. as Global Competitor: What are the Elements of a National Manufacturing Strategy?" The witnesses were: Mr. Mark Zandi, Chief Economist, Moody’s Economy.com; Mr. Leo Hindery, Jr., Managing Partner, InterMedia Partners; and Mr. Scott Paul, Executive Director, Alliance for American Manufacturing.
The week of July 6-15, Sen. Brown, as a member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, worked to mark-up the proposed health care reform legislation.

As Congress weighs sweeping energy and climate legislation, Sen. Brown announced a new bill that would create a $30 billion revolving loan program to help auto suppliers and other small and mid-sized manufacturers retool for the clean energy industry. Brown’s bill would also expand the focus of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to include support for manufacturers transitioning to the clean energy economy.
Sen. Brown visited the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). While there, he announced new legislation that would expand the use of municipal solid waste as a source of clean energy.
On May 27, 2009, Senator Brown spoke and took questions about health care reform at the City Club of Cleveland.
Sen. Brown, chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy, invited manufacturing and business leaders for a hearing entitled “Manufacturing and the Credit Crisis.” The hearing examined the state of manufacturing amid poor economic conditions, and sought to discuss how Congress can strengthen Ohio and the nation’s manufacturing base.
Sen. Brown, a member of Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, joined Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) in co-chairing a HELP committee hearing, entitled: "The Swine Flu Epidemic: The Public Health and Medical Response." Brown, Kennedy and other members of the committee questioned Richard E. Besser, Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) and Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Senator Brown visited the home of 73-year-old Ona Bowman to discuss projected job creation and economic activity resulting from the weatherization program.
