Senator Brown spoke at the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) rally outside the U.S. Capitol Building about health care reform and the public option.
As Congress weighs sweeping energy and climate legislation, Sen. Brown announced a new bill that would create a $30 billion revolving loan program to help auto suppliers and other small and mid-sized manufacturers retool for the clean energy industry. Brown’s bill would also expand the focus of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to include support for manufacturers transitioning to the clean energy economy.
Sen. Brown visited the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). While there, he announced new legislation that would expand the use of municipal solid waste as a source of clean energy.

Sen. Brown, chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy, invited manufacturing and business leaders for a hearing entitled “Manufacturing and the Credit Crisis.” The hearing examined the state of manufacturing amid poor economic conditions, and sought to discuss how Congress can strengthen Ohio and the nation’s manufacturing base.
Sen. Brown, a member of Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, joined Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) in co-chairing a HELP committee hearing, entitled: "The Swine Flu Epidemic: The Public Health and Medical Response." Brown, Kennedy and other members of the committee questioned Richard E. Besser, Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) and Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Senator Brown visited the home of 73-year-old Ona Bowman to discuss projected job creation and economic activity resulting from the weatherization program.

Senator Brown held a forum March 30th, 2009 on expanding access to cancer clinical trials. Sherrod heard firsthand testimony from cancer survivors, experts, businesses, and insurance companies. Clinical trials often include cutting-edge therapies that are not available through traditional methods. Witnesses at the forum discussed how cancer clinical trials advance research and offer new treatment options, while insurance companies and business leaders will discussed how routine health costs can be covered even if patients enroll in clinical trials.
This veterans roundtable was held at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Columbus on Monday March 9 . The roundtable, entitled "Are Veterans receiving the Health Care they Need? Why or Why not"? covered a wide range of issues, including the effects of exposure to Agent Orange, mental health services , disability claim processing, and hiring and promotion of veterans in VA facilities.
Sherrod spoke at the Columbus Rotary meeting March 9 at the Columbus Convention Center. Sherrod discussed the economic stimulus, his admiration for the work that Rotary has done on global health issues, efforts to make Ohio the silicon valley of alternative energy and fielded questions from the audience of about 300.
