Senator Brown was the keynote speaker at the Leadership Cincinnati Alumni “The Impact of Poverty on Our Community” event sponsored Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, Talbert House, United Way, FreeStore Foodbank, and the Hamilton County Council on Aging and held at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Senator Brown spoke about poverty issues throughout the state and took questions from the audience afterward.
At the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University, Senator Brown today announced legislation that would help make clinical trials more accessible to patients diagnosed with cancer. Currently, many cancer patients who want to participate in a clinical trial cannot because of the financial burden it imposes on them and their family.
Senator Brown presented Major D. Brock Foster, USAF Retired, with the Distinguished Flying Cross forty years after he earned it for rescuing a downed pilot during an intense battle in Vietnam. Major Foster served in WWII, the Korean War and in the Vietnam War. The event was held at North Olmsted City Hall. People in attendance at the ceremony included Mayor Thomas O’Grady; Brigadier General Tim White, UASF Retired; Major Foster's wife Marjorie Foster and his daughter Dee Foster, who initiated the request with Senator Brown's office when she learned that her father hadn’t received the medal.
Senator Brown hosted a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing on college access and affordability at The Ohio State University. The hearing, titled Fulfilling the Promise of an Affordable College Education addressed the effect the credit crunch and current market conditions are having on the availability of student loans, the continuing problem of rising tuition, and the fast growth of high cost private student loans.
Senator Brown met with a group of students from Kent State's Washington Program in National Issues and discuss issues and interests from the steps of the Capitol.

Senator Brown met with over 40 fire fighters from around Ohio with the International Association of Fire Fighters as part of the Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference.
On Monday March 10th, Senator Brown attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of Norfolk Southern’s Rickenbacker Intermodal terminal. The event was also attended by Governor Ted Strickland, Congressman Dave Hobson, and a host of state and local elected officials. The public-private partnership between Norfolk Southern and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority is expected to make Ohio one of the prime logistics locations in the nation. This venture is expected to add 20,000 new jobs to region over the next 30 years.
