Veterans

Nothing is more important than honoring Ohio veterans. The men and women of the armed forces have been made a promise that if they defend our country in military service, we will provide them with the benefits they have earned. Serving on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is an honor and a duty I do not take lightly.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) had long been free from the tough Congressional oversight needed to ensure that it meets its obligations to America’s veterans. VA oversight is also vital to ensure that our veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan get the care and benefits they need to make a smooth transition into civilian life.  Today the VA and Congress are working together to improve the lives of our nation's veterans.

This section of my website is intended to be a place where Veterans can come for information and assistance. Please use it as a resource when contacting different agencies or to submit a question or case to my office.

An Important Message to All Ohio Veterans

Please be aware of a phone scam targeting veterans in an attempt to fraudulently obtain their credit card information.

Recently, veterans across the nation have been receiving calls from individuals claiming to represent the Patient Care Group.  The callers claim that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has changed procedures for distributing prescriptions and ask for the veterans’ credit card number.

Please note, the VA has not changed its procedures regarding the dispensing of prescriptions.

Be suspicious of any calls requesting personal information such as credit card or social security numbers.

You can learn more about the situation and what else you can do to protect yourself here.

Thank you for your service.

Post 9/11 GI Bill Implementation

As a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, the primary committee for oversight of the new Post 9/11 GI bill, I am interested in hearing your stories on how the Post 9/11 GI Bill My office has been receiving questions and concerns from veterans about the new education benefits.  The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee will be spending the coming months working with the VA, universities, and veterans on how to make the bill even better.  That is why it is so important to hear from you.

How has the new GI Bill worked for you? What can be done to improve the GI Bill and its administration?  Please visit the "Contact the Senator" link to voice your opinion regarding this issue.
