WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement in advance of President Obama’s Oval Office address this evening regarding the end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq:

“This redeployment is an important step, but there remain 50,000 troops in Iraq and we must not be complacent about that. The Iraqi government needs to ensure stability in the region, and those 50,000 American men and women deserve to come home as soon as possible. While I voted against the Iraq War and opposed our involvement in the region, the courage and sacrifice of our service members are to be commended.  I hope the President outlines when and how he will bring the rest of our troops home and a timeframe for that effort.”
