Brown Announces More Than $2.25M to Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority

September 24, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $2,257,000 in competitive grants made to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA). The federal funds, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 are allocated through the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transit Investment for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction program.

“These funds will help make Cleveland more energy efficient,” Brown said. “By updating important transportation lines, we can reduce the city’s energy costs and create new jobs.”

These funds will be used to replace and modify existing equipment to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs. This conservation project will include replacement of light fixtures, control systems, and roof upgrades.
