Sen. Sherrod Brown charges that Republican obstructionism is holding up Senate passage of a bill extending unemployment benefits for thousands of Ohioans. Sen. George V. Voinovich agrees the extension is needed, but says he and some other Republicans simply want to pay for the extension out of stimulus funding, not out of the general treasury which would add to the debt.

Brown, D-Ohio, says the debate needs to come to an end quickly and a bill extending benefits needs to be passed, because more than 14,000 Ohioans will run out of unemployment benefits at the end of this month.

"Partisan delay of this legislation is a slap in the face to millions of American families," Brown said.
