WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Cleveland Fire Department has been awarded $16,000 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters (AFG)-Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grant program. The funds will be will be used to place placards on vacant housing, that has been inspected by the Cleveland Fire Department and Cleveland Department of Building and Housing, to alert future entrants of hazards associated with the property.

AFG grants target fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with hospitals to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and first-responder personnel. According to FEMA, the Assistance to Firefighter Grants are used to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
