Brown Announces More Than $7.4 Million for Ohio's Fire Stations and Port Security Initiatives

WASHINGTON—U.S.
Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $7,448,934 in funding for fire
station construction and port and transit security initiatives throughout Ohio.
The federal funds, made available through the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) were allocated by two of the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security’s (DHS) preparedness grant programs.
“This
funding will strengthen emergency response efforts across the state,” Brown
said. “These are shovel-ready projects that will create jobs now and provide
Ohio communities with the resources they need to ensure public safety and
preparedness.”
Ohio is
receiving $253,380 from the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) for port
improvements. Major goals of the PSGP are to protect port infrastructure from
terrorism, enhance risk management capabilities, - and support the
implementation of credentialing systems for workers on ports and
vessels. Listed below are the port security initiatives receiving funding:

Five fire
departments in Ohio will receive $7,195,554 from the Fire Station Construction
Grant Program (SCG) to build new or modify existing fire stations to enhance
response capabilities and protect communities. These grants will replace unsafe
or uninhabitable structures and expand fire protection coverage in Ohio. Listed
